HISTORY OF WELL OF GRACE
Well of GRACE Ministries desires to establish and maintain a residential
treatment home free of charge in which young women ages 13-24 may stay
for a minimum of six (6) months. During each young woman's stay, she
will: (1) be equipped with the skills needed to either re-enter a safe
family environment or prepare her to live independently; and (2) be
provided with licensed counselors in both individual and group settings
which will facilitate her working through personal and family issues; be
able to complete her high school education or G.E.D.; and, learn skills
to obtain gainful employment and/or pursue a college education.
In May of 2004 a founding board began the work of building Well of GRACE
Ministries. There were several local professionals who volunteered to
help the board conquer areas that were unfamiliar. With their help, we
wrote by-laws and a constitution, became incorporated, and designed a
logo. Three fundraisers were held (two garage sales and a tour supper)
which earned approximately $3000, and this money was used for start-up
fees. By the end of 2004 we were officially recognized as a non-profit
organization achieving 501(c)3 status. To help share our dream and
generate additional funds, we created brochures a quarterly newsletter
and a database of donors, volunteers, and other interested people which
continues to be expanded every month.
In 2005 we focused our energy on sharing our dream with the community.
Our website, wellofgraceministries.com, was launched. We created a Power
Point presentation that we presented to many area church and civic
groups. We began applying for grants and we became eligible to receive
matching funds from Whirlpool.
In March of 2006, a fundraising event entitled, "The Gathering", was
held as our first community-wide event in conjunction with a concert
featuring Christian singer and songwriter Ginny Owens. We drafted a
program and procedures manual outlining the operations of our home. We
created an informational packet which was distributed to area churches
and companies. This summer we held a Mud Volleyball Tournament that
proved successful to become another annual fundraising event. Thus far,
we have received a little more than $100,000 in donations from
individuals, families, churches and corporations.
